If you’re looking for something quieter, just make your way west down West Beach Blvd. You’ll find plenty of public beach access points, as there’s pretty much one where every street meets the Gulf.

But don’t stop there—make your way east to Orange Beach, where the sunsets are truly a sight to behold. Here, the unique mix of white sands and crystal-clear waters creates a spectacle that’s both soothing and awe-inspiring.

Whether it’s spotting dolphins on a Dolphin Watching Cruise or experiencing a serene Sunset Sailing Cruise on the Cetacean, the tours here are top-notch. Each tour offers a unique perspective of the coast and its rich marine life.

If you have little ones, be sure to hit up The Pirate Ship Adventure, which is always a hit with families. Nothing quite beats the feeling of that gentle rock as you glide through the water, surrounded by nature’s grandeur. So, hop aboard, my friends. You’ll soon arrive at Fort Morgan, a significant site in American history. Standing on the grounds, you can almost hear the echoes of the past – whispers of soldiers who once defended our shores during the Civil War.

You can start with a tour of the historic site. As you walk along the site’s fortified walls, it’s hard not to be struck with just how massive this structure is. You’ll see the casements that were used as gun protection stations, and you’ll even stumble across the cannons that were used to defend the site from enemy attacks. If you make your way to the top of the walls, the panoramic views will stun you and will certainly get you thinking about what life was like here in the late 19th century.

6. Great Museums

Gulf Shores also boasts a vibrant museum scene, each one home to a fascinating collection of artifacts and stories. The Gulf Shores Museum, a historic home-turned-museum, is a personal favorite. With a relaxed atmosphere, live music, and an excellent selection of craft beers, it was love at first pint.

Their offerings range from robust stouts to zesty IPAs, each one brewed to perfection with an unmistakable local touch. A crowd favorite is the Rod’s Reel Cream Ale—a refreshing delight after a day in the sun. I love the IPAs and will often grab the Area 251 IPA.

What makes Big Beach Brewing extra special, though, is their open-air taproom. You get to sip on their brilliant brews while soaking in stunning views. Trust me, whether you’re a craft beer connoisseur or just looking for a chill spot, Big Beach Brewing ticks all the right boxes.

8. Gulf State Park Pier

Now, who doesn’t love a good view? Gulf Shores is a paradise for photographers and view seekers alike. During my visits, I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve just stood there, utterly captivated by the natural beauty around me. And let’s not forget the annual National Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship held right here in Gulf Shores. Watching those intense games, surrounded by cheering crowds, was an exhilarating experience!

But the wildlife encounters don’t stop there. The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo is also home to three Bengal Tigers, an American Black Bear, and two dromedary camels. I also recommend the Alligator Alley, where we had the thrill of watching these majestic creatures in their natural habitat.

There’s one place in Gulf Shores that’s an absolute hit with the kiddos, and that’s OWA Park. The moment you set foot in this theme park, it will be clear you are in for a day packed with fun and excitement.

OWA is a 520-acre family destination that has both a theme park and a water park. There’s truly something for everyone.

From thrilling roller coasters to family-friendly rides, The Tropic Falls Theme Park offers something for every age and adventure level. I got a kick out of The Mystic Mansion, a unique haunted house ride. It’s more just plain fun than scary, but you’ll want to try it.

The Water Park is truly amazing. The park features nine different attractions, from the relaxing Castaway Creek lazy river to the heart stopping Piranha Plunge waterslide. There are four other waterslides, a wave pool, a surf simulator, and a kids play tower. Like I said, OWA’s got it all!

Trust me, Gulf Shores knows how to keep the little ones entertained. So pack your sense of adventure and dive into the fun—it’s an experience that’ll make your Gulf Shores vacation unforgettable!

12. The Wharf in Orange Beach

If you’re thinking The Wharf is just another shopping destination, you’re in for a pleasant surprise. This vibrant hotspot in Orange Beach, part of the greater Gulf Shores area, is a hub of entertainment, dining, and yes, shopping.

Strolling through The Wharf, it’s easy to spend hours exploring the eclectic mix of shops. While browsing, you can snag everything from chic beachwear to unique local crafts. Stop at Sand Dollar Lifestyles to stock up on all your beachwear needs before you hit the shore.

But shopping is just part of the fun. It’s also home to a selection of delightful eateries, serving a wide variety of cuisines. Get some great fresh seafood at Mile Marker 158 Dockside or feed the kids at Vinny’s Pizzeria. Then, pour yourself a beer at POUR Smart Bar, a self-serve draft house with 39 taps.

The Wharf is more than a shopper’s paradise—it’s a place where you can catch a concert at the amphitheater, enjoy a round of mini-golf, or simply watch the spectacular marina view with a drink in hand. Festivals in Gulf Shores are an experience like no other, filled with the vibrancy of music, mouthwatering food, and that warm Southern hospitality. I’ve had the pleasure of attending a few, and let me tell you, they’re nothing short of a feast for the senses.

The National Shrimp Festival is definitely a favorite. Imagine this—four days of delicious shrimp dishes, live music, and crafts, all beachfront under the warm Alabama sun. It’s a seafood lover’s paradise and a celebration you don’t want to miss.

Then there’s the Hangout Music Festival, an annual event featuring an eclectic mix of artists that’ll have you grooving on the beautiful beaches of Gulf Shores. Trust me, there’s nothing quite like losing yourself in the rhythm of the music with the sand beneath your feet.

We also love Mini Golf at Pirate’s Island Adventure Golf—a pirate-themed fun activity that gets everyone involved. And let’s not forget Waterville USA, a water and amusement park that’s a guaranteed hit with the kids.

Visiting Gulf State Park was like stepping into a living postcard. This haven of natural beauty became one of my family’s favorite retreats during my visits to Gulf Shores.

There’s something serene about walking on its well-kept trails, surrounded by diverse plant life and the sounds of chirping birds. And don’t forget the park’s Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail, a perfect spot for a bike ride or a leisurely walk.

The park’s wildlife is also a sight to behold. We saw everything from frolicking deer to the occasional alligator sunning itself near the freshwater lakes, and even managed to spot some dolphins during our beach visit!
